Texture/Material - Coarse Textured handwoven tussar spun jute silk fabric. These fabrics are completely handwoven on a frame loom. The yarns/threads used for this fabric is Tussar spun silk and jute. Handwoven fabrics have totally different texture then mill made fabrics. It is due to the low weaving speed and the equipment used for weaving that determine the thickness and quality of the yarn. It is these textures that helps in creating distinct handloom fabrics.
Yarn dyeing is a process of dyeing yarn in different colours. It is a crucial pre-loom activity. The dyes used are natural for this fabric.
Natural dyes are the dyes that use extracts from nature. It can be from bark of trees, insects, flowers, minerals, rust, vegetables, plants and other natural materials.
Tussar silk is produced from larvae of several species of silkworms. Tussar silk is valued for its rich texture and natural deep gold colour. Spun silk is a fabric made by hand-spinning threads on a ‘charkha’, these threads can be cotton, silk or wool. The fabric keeps you warm in the winter, cool in the summer and lasts for years. This fabric has a stiff feel due to the process of lubrication to withstand the rigors of weaving. It uses natural adhesives like rice, maize, wheat flour or potato starch for it.
